8 strings

i discussed a 10 string bass in an earlier blog, when JPJ was playing one, and the 8 string follows the same concept. 4 strings are tuned like a normal bass, and each of these strings has a high octave double string.

i never gave these much thought until recently. i've always been a fan of octave-splits in my playing, but recently i got into them even more. and 8 string basses are designed for people who really enjoy playing with octaves. anyway, so you can hear what i mean, here's a great example of an 8 string, a Hagstrom (swedish made), played by jimi hendrix.
